The Lockerley Millenium Walking group was established in 2000 and has more than 60 regular adherents. It organises a walk roughly each month on a weekend day which usually breaks approximately half way at midday at a convenient pub. There's also a shorter series of weekday walks roughly each month - in the morning during winter months and in the evening in the summer months.
There is also an annual away event that is usually arranged over two to three days in an area some distance from the Lockerley area. In recent years we have visited Chichester (2025), 2024 was a blank year, Bradford on Avon (2023), Weymouth (2021), Modbury (2020), Dunster (2019), Chepstow (2018), Bridport (2017), Brixham (2016), Shaftesbury (2014), Tarwith Sands (2013), Midhurst and Petworth (2012), Eastbourne and the Downs (2011), Lyme Regis (2009), Alresford (2007).
Each walk is usually announced in the newsletter and, of course, directly by email to members of the group. A well attended annual event is the AGM which sees a wide range of walkers come for the skittles and lunch - some of whom do the sporting thing and walk in the morning.

The Thorngate History Society broadly reflects the historical aspects within the Thorngate Hundred. It used to be highly active and it organised visits to intersting earthworks, barns and other buildings. It required much care and research in organising. It has lapsed in recent years and awaits a pricess charming to re-animate its soul.

The Thorngate Village Care group supports residents who live in the four villages of East and West Tytherley, East Dean and Lockerley. It was formed in 1992 when it became apparent that some people were falling through the net of support previously provided by either social services, health service or local family members.
The Midthorngate Care Group comprises a team of around 30 volunteers who believe that community starts within the community. We are all DBS checked and have appropriate car insurance. We are supported by the Good Neighbours Network www.goodneighbours.org.uk. New volunteers are most welcome. Most requests involve taking people by car to appointments at hospitals or local surgeries or accessing shops, post office or village coffee shop. The group sends flowers to those who have come out of hospital, had a baby or been bereaved and need support. We can help with other one-off or more unusual requests as needed.
We are supported by grants from Test Valley Borough Council and the local Parish Councils in addition to fundraising and donations by users of the service. Volunteers can claim mileage expenses for journeys they undertake.
Requests for help can be made to any co-ordinator. For Lockerley and East Dean contact Diana 07464 95 67 59 or Liz 017 94 34 09 93. For the Tytherleys contact Barbara 017 94 34 16 72, Julie 017 94 34 08 50 or Lucia 07799 56 10 29.

The Lockerely Lunch club began in an era whan, to be over 60 years old was considered to be rare. At that time it was called the Over 60s Lunch Club. It met once a month usually on a Sunday and provided a three course lunch with a glass of sherry. It provided a social lifeline for those not able to travel far. Life has moved on these days. The club still operates - usually on a Sunday - and it still provides a social event for the village's less able people. The forthcoming dates are usually published in the Newsletter. And, if you sish to help in preparation and setting up then the organisers will be pleased to find you a rĂ´le.
